How to protect yourself while dealing with a Water Damage.

The prospect of having to deal with a Water Damage claim is difficult enough. SERVPRO is ready to help and wants to make the process as painless as possible. When your pipes that burst, the sewage backs up or the toilets overflow-we have your back!

When your situation involves an insurance claim, there are a few things you may want to keep in mind. It can be tricky to claim full coverage on a water damage. If it is a situation where you can, make sure you protect your claim.

There are some main items to remember. First-Dry the area properly to eliminate creating further loss. Next, be sure to contact your insurer and always document every part of the situation.

When you have to handle a water damage situation, mitigate any further loss. Insurers want to know that the cause of water damage has been identified and resolved.  When you then contact the insurer, make sure it is rather quickly-most companies require a claim to be called in within the first 24 hours. Not having the issue mitigated quickly or contacting the insurer too late, could risk a claim denial.

Documenting everything!

Document when, where and how of every part of the damage. Keep in mind-work may not begin on repair work until everything is approved. Take pictures, gather bids, keep receipts and research companies. Keep an open line of communication between your insurer, your repair company and yourself. These little reminders will help you get through any water damage with minimal stress!
